MEGAN LOWE DANCES

After a well received intimate performance in October at Gray Loft Gallery as part of Oakland Art Murmur / Oakland Style Week, MLD has been invited to perform at the Grand Opening of Gray Loft Uptown: A New Art Destination in the Heart of Oakland's Art Murmur.

The hosts of KQED’s series MIXED! bring that celebration of the wide-ranging experiences of mixed Californians to the stage for a fusion of live conversation and documentary with W. Kamau Bell and Melissa Hudson Bell, live multimedia storytelling by Cheyenne Bearfoot, food by Chef Nelson German of Sobre Mesa, a performance from Megan Lowe Dances, and more.

"Dancing with you, is like taking an advanced course in physics," Brenton Cheng said to Megan Lowe after an extensive and exciting dance at a contact jam, years ago. This lead to more exhilarating dances, and now their first performance collaboration. In Finger Trap, Megan and Brenton dive deep into physical puzzles while treading on the surface of shared ancestry.

A site-specific group piece commissioned by UC Berkeley’s Energy Biosciences Institute, choreographed by Megan in collaboration with Sonsherée Giles, Rosemary Hannon, Miriam Wolodarski-Lundberg, Shira Yaziv, and Mindy Zarem, with live music by Girl Swallows Nightingale. Also featuring Megan’s song "Leaving."

The film was officially selected by the 12th Annual Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema and by the 4th Annual Tiny Dance Film Festival.
